Located in Chow Kit, a stones throw from Chow Kit wet market, Restoran Kin Kin serves up enticing bowls of chilli pan mee to hungry diners. This Chinese/Malaysian dish is made up of bouncy wheat noodles, minced pork, spring onions, fried garlic and anchovies and a soft boiled egg. You’ll spot a plastic tub filled with chilli on the table. Add dollops of the fragrant and fiery yet flavoursome spice to your dish and mix with gusto.
You’ll find each element in your bowl plays an important role. The gooey yolk of the egg binds the mince, spring onions and crispy bits to the noodles. The anchovies add crunch and a pleasant salty twang. It’s a hugely satisfying meal. A simple soup containing egg white and potato leaves which the Uncle who owns Restoran Kin Kin tells us is good for combating the heat, cleanses the palate.
A range of drinks are on offer at Restoran Kin Kin too. We sip on the juice of the monk fruit or luo hon guo which is said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar. It too is known for cooling down the body and tastes a bit like liquorice.
Are Restoran Kin Kin’s chilli pan mee some of KL’s best noodles? We reckon it’s definitely worth making another visit to Restoran Kin Kin, just to be sure.
