Despite being more of a savoury girl, I do love a sweet treat once in a while (okay maybe more than once in a while) and Bluebells Cakery was on my radar to visit whilst in Auckland. PS lives dangerously close to Bluebells Cakery and is a frequent visitor so she was more than happy to meet there for a catch up.
I zoned in on the lamington cupcake- chocolate sponge soaked in icing, coated in thick dessicated coconut and topped with a freeze dried raspberry. The cake was moist and oozed a welcome blob of tangy, sweet raspberry jam as I dug my fork into it. The delicate floral plates added to my enjoyment.
My macchiato was the perfect thing to order to complement my cupcake. It was strong and cut through the sweetness of the lamington.
PS adored her coconut ice and said it was the best coconut ice she’s ever tasted. The perfect balance of coconut and sweetness without being sickly and just the right size – big enough to curb a sweet craving but small enough to not feel guilty about it.
The girls working that afternoon were particularly nice and did not shoo us out the second it hit 3:00pm. When I told them to boot us out they graciously invited us to stay for a while so long as we didn’t mind if they cleaned up around us. Love it. Charming, delightful, sweet and endearing- Bluebells Cakery is all these things and more. My waistline is begrudgingly thankful I don’t live round the corner anymore!
